Company Profile

Located at mile 20 on the Ohio River, General materials Terminals, Inc. Is ideally situated at the East End of the Consolidated Rail Corporation's Conway Yards-- The largest fully automated yard in the world. The advantage of this location is the prompt switching service into and out of our terminal yard. General Materials Terminals provides steel and general cargo handling and has done so since the company startup in the early 1930's. This function is performed using the following major pieces of equipment.

Manitowoc #1

This Manitowoc is a 4000 Vicon (150 ton capacity). It is equipped with a 12 yard bucket and has the capability of transloading 450T/Hr through the barge. This is achived through the use of a 14 yard bucket and conveyor system. In addition to car-haul system, the locomotive (a GP 9) is used to pull the cars under the load out.

Manitowoc #2

This is also a Manitowoc 4000 Vicon. It is pedestal mounted on a barge and has 500T/Hr cpability through the barge. This is achieved through the use of a 14-yard bucket and conveyor system. In addition to our car-haul system, the locomotive (a GP 9) is used to pull the cars under the load out.

Dravo Whirler

This crane is an alll electric, full revolving crane equipped with a four yard bucket and currently loads directly into an over-track hopper. During 1996 conveyors are to be installed and a larger capacity bucket obtained that will provide about 300T/Hr capability at this operation. Additionally, this crane has magnet capabilities and has also been used for general cargo handling.

General Cargo Handling

General Materials Treminals provides steel and general cargo handling and has done so since the company start up in the early 1930's. This function is performed using the following major peices of equipment:

American Stiff-Leg Derrick

This is a 60-Ton structure capable of handling lifts up to 40 tons and has a typical daily handling (depending on lift size) of 700 to 1600 Tons/Day. It has magnet capabilities and is able to transload cargoes between land modes and river barges in an efficient manner.

P & H Truck Crane

To compliment the bulk-handling capacity, this machine was acquired in 1995 and is a 50 ton machine. It provides transloading between barges and trucks, but can be positioned throughout the terminal yard to provide continuous handling and rail-to-truck transloading. It is magnet capable and bucket capable.
